Ocean House feels like floating between the sky and the sea. From the moment we arrived I knew it would be extraordinary. While it might sound like a great spot for a romantic getaway (and it is!), in the trees high above the ocean was also perfect location to visit with Mom. We hadn’t seen each other in ages and she had traveled all the way from Brazil–so why not share something amazing?
The expansive panoramic views from the hotel are perfect to take in the breathtaking beauty of Big Sur and the great Pacific. The room effortlessly merges indoor and outdoor, creating harmony between the hotel and its surroundings. My personal favorite was the outdoor hot tub—I spent more than a little time unwinding as the waves crashed below and the sun shone from above. Add the rustic elegance of wood and stone finishes and the COZY fireplace and I knew it was going to be impossible to leave.
Sierra Mar: a Culinary Journey Above the Clouds
Dining at Sierra Mar is an experience. Perched in the cliffs, the restaurant is a sensuous feast: delicious farm-to-table food and jaw-dropping ocean views.
We started with an assortment of seasonal bites, followed by a vibrant Farmers’ Market Salad and hearty mains. The menu is full of local, organic ingredients—many sourced directly from the property’s own gardens. And, trust me, the burger is an absolute must. The whales and dolphins dancing in the waves below as you eats adds some extra magic.
Unwind and Recharge: the Perfect Spa Experience
After a challenging journey to the hotel—including flight delays and the 101 being closed due to heavy rain—I was ready for some serious relaxation. The Post Ranch Spa delivered.
My massage therapist, Brandon, welcomed me with a simple, “How are you today?” My answer shifted pretty significantly in the positive direction after his insanely good massage. My mom, meanwhile, found her massage so relaxing that she fell asleep. Her therapist had to call me to wake her up—we are still laughing about that one.
The spa isn’t just indulgence—there is alignment with nature in the hotel’s eco-friendly practices and organic produce and products. The treatments heal and rejuvenate inside and out. The stay was a beautiful pause. A deep breath.
Morning Rituals: Yoga and Nature Walks
Mornings are sacred at Post Ranch Inn. We started the day with a sunrise yoga session overlooking Big Sur, which set the tone for the day of relaxation and exploration.
The afternoon we spent on a guided nature walk, where we learned about the unique flora and fauna and connected to the natural world and its wonders.
